📋 Pure Fiction Overview

Pure Fiction (PF) is Honkai: Star Rail's wave-based endgame mode focused on AoE damage and fast clearing. Unlike Memory of Chaos which rewards single-target burst, PF challenges you to defeat four waves of increasingly difficult enemies within a limited number of cycles. The mode resets every two weeks alongside the MoC/AS cycle, rotating in lockstep with the endgame calendar. Each season introduces a unique Turbulence buff that defines the meta for that cycle.

Rewards: Pure Fiction Stages 1-4 award standard materials, while Stages 5-8 are the primary Stellar Jade sources. Maxing out Stage 8 with 80,000 points rewards 80 Stellar Jades per stage (640 total for the full clear across all 4 reward stages). Additional rewards include Refined Aether, Lost Crystals, Eternal Endurance, and credit bundles.

💰 Reward Breakdown (Stages 5-8)

  • Stage 5 (60K ★): 80 Stellar Jades + 60 Trailblaze EXP + Refined Aether ×3
  • Stage 6 (60K ★): 80 Stellar Jades + 60 Trailblaze EXP + Lost Crystal ×3
  • Stage 7 (60K ★): 80 Stellar Jades + 60 Trailblaze EXP + Lost Crystal ×4 + Eternal Endurance ×2
  • Stage 8 (60K ★): 80 Stellar Jades + 60 Trailblaze EXP + Eternal Endurance ×4
  • Total per rotation: 640 Stellar Jades across all reward stages

⚡ Current v3.4 Turbulence — "Whirlwind of Blades"

The v3.4 Pure Fiction turbulence, Whirlwind of Blades, triggers whenever an ally uses an Ultimate. It launches a follow-up attack equal to 50% of the ally's ATK as AoE Damage to all enemies, ignoring 25% of their DEF. This heavily favors Ultimate-spamming teams — Erudition characters with low-cost Ults (Argenti, Herta, Jade) and energy-generating supports (Tingyun, Huohuo, Robin) get maximum value. Additionally, enemies take 40% increased Ultimate DMG for 2 turns after being Weakness Broken, rewarding Break-FUA hybrids.

EffectTrigger ConditionDamageAdditional Effect

Break VulnerabilityEnemy Weakness Broken—+40% Ultimate DMG taken for 2 turns
Stage 8 BoostEvery 3 Ults usedExtra 80% ATK waveRegenerates 10 Energy to all allies

💡 Turbulence Strategy: Build teams around low-cost, spammable Ults. Argenti's 90-energy Enhanced Ult triggers Whirlwind of Blades twice per rotation. Pair with Tingyun or Huohuo for energy battery loops. The Break vulnerability synergy makes Firefly + HMC teams excellent secondary options — breaking key enemies before ult-spam phases.

🛡️ Best Team Archetypes for v3.4

🔹 Erudition / Ultimate Spam — S-Tier

Erudition units dominate PF by design — their AoE kits and low-cost Ults are tailor-made for Whirlwind of Blades. Argenti's 90-energy Enhanced Ult is the single best trigger for the turbulence, proccing the FUA every time you use it. Herta is the undisputed F2P queen, refunding Energy on kill and chaining follow-ups endlessly in wave content.

Sub-DPS / BatteryHimeko, HertaQingque, Hook
Harmony / EnergyTingyun, Robin, HuohuoBronya, Sparkle

🔥 Rotation Tip: Argenti + Tingyun + Huohuo core. Tingyun ults Argenti for immediate 90-energy Enhanced Ult. Huohuo's Ult provides 20% Energy to the entire team. Each character's Ult procs Whirlwind of Blades, so on a full rotation you get 4+ turbulence triggers in a single cycle.

🔸 Follow-Up Attack (FUA) — S-Tier

FUA teams in PF focus on Himeko and Herta, whose follow-ups chain off enemy spawns and weakness breaks. Himeko's FUA triggers every 3 weakness breaks — in PF's dense waves this happens constantly. Pair with Herta for the classic "Herta+Himeko" duo that has been a PF staple since release. While turbulence favors Ults, FUA characters generate tremendous indirect value from clearing adds that fuel further follow-ups.

🔸 DoT — A-Tier

DoT teams are surprisingly strong in PF because damage-over-time ticks are unaffected by enemy count — you apply DoTs once and they tick on every enemy simultaneously. Kafka's Skill trigger and Black Swan's Arcana stacking shred through waves. The turbulence's 40% Ultimate DMG bonus after Break also helps Kafka's Ult hit much harder.

🔸 Break (Firefly) — A-Tier

Break teams benefit from the vulnerability side of Whirlwind of Blades — once you break an enemy, it takes 40% more Ult damage for 2 turns. Firefly's enhanced state spams low-cost Enhanced Skills that add to the Break bar, while HMC's Superbreak ensures broken enemies take massive additional damage.

🏗️ Floor-by-Floor Strategy — Stages 1-4

Stages 1-4 are introductory and can be cleared with almost any reasonably built team using proper element matching. Focus on building your score momentum here — 80,000 points on Stage 4 requires roughly 2-cycle clears per wave. Use this as a testing ground for your Stage 5-8 strategy.

🏗️ Floor-by-Floor Strategy — Stage 5

First Half — Aurumaton & Automaton Squad

Wave 1: Automaton Spiders and Hounds. Wave 2: Aurumaton Spectral Envoy backed by IPC grunts. The Aurumaton is weak to Quantum, Wind, and Imaginary, with high Physical/Fire/Lightning RES. Herta + Himeko works here if you have Ruan Mei for Break support. Otherwise, run Argenti or Serval with Tingyun battery.

Recommended: Herta (E6) + Himeko + Ruan Mei + Aventurine. Argenti + Tingyun + Huohuo + Bronya.

Second Half — Imaginary Weaver & Voidrangers

Wave 1: Voidranger Reavers and Mara-Struck Soldiers. Wave 2: Imaginary Weaver (the TV boss) with its dimension-bending mechanics. The Weaver opens rifts that multiply enemies — AoE is mandatory. Weak to Lightning and Quantum. Kafka DoT shreds here because DoTs tick through the dimension rifts.

Recommended: Kafka + Black Swan + Ruan Mei + Huohuo. Serval (E6) + Tingyun + Bronya + Lingsha.

🏗️ Floor-by-Floor Strategy — Stage 6

First Half — Shape Shifters & Swarm

Wave 1: Swarm grunts and Stings. Wave 2: Shape Shifter with self-healing mechanics. You need high burst to overcome its healing. Weak to Fire, Lightning, Physical. Firefly Break or Himeko FUA both work well.

Recommended: Firefly + HMC + Ruan Mei + Lingsha. Himeko + Herta + Robin + Aventurine.

Second Half — Stormbringer & IPC Squad

Wave 1: IPC Grunts and Silvermane Guards. Wave 2: Stormbringer elite with AoE wind shear. The Stormbringer is weak to Lightning and Ice, making Serval (E6) or Jingliu excellent choices. Bring cleanse because of the wind shear DoT.

Recommended: Argenti + Tingyun + Huohuo + Bronya. Serval (E6) + Asta + Ruan Mei + Luocha.

🏗️ Floor-by-Floor Strategy — Stage 7

First Half — Gepard & Silvermane Guards

Gepard's shield demands high-frequency damage to break before he re-applies. The turbulence helps here — every Ult procs Whirlwind of Blades which hits through the shield. Bring Argenti or Herta who can spam Ults quickly to shred the shield bar.

Recommended: Argenti + Tingyun + Huohuo + Bronya. Herta (E6) + Himeko + Robin + Aventurine.

Second Half — Kafka & DoT Squad

Kafka herself punishes slow clears with her dominator mechanic. Weak to Physical, Lightning, and Fire. The key is clearing adds (Mara-Struck Soldiers) before they get dominated. Firefly's AoE Break damage kills adds while shredding Kafka's toughness.

Recommended: Firefly + HMC + Ruan Mei + Gallagher. Kafka + Black Swan + Huohuo + Tingyun.

🏗️ Floor-by-Floor Strategy — Stage 8

⭐ Stage 8 Best Clear Teams

First Half: Argenti + Tingyun + Huohuo + Bronya — Argenti's Enhanced Ult spam gets the most out of Whirlwind of Blades. Each Enhanced Ult triggers the 50% ATK follow-up. With Tingyun battery + Huohuo energy, you can chain Ults every 2 turns.

Second Half: Herta (E6) + Himeko + Robin + Aventurine — the classic Herta+Himeko duo generates endless follow-ups from enemy spawns. Robin's team-wide advance and Ult buff keep the momentum going. Aventurine's FUA shield adds another trigger source.

First Half — Cocolia & Freeze Guards

Wave 1 features 4 waves of IPC robots and Aurumatons. Wave 2 is Cocolia herself, summoning ice crystals that CC your team. Cocolia is weak to Fire, Lightning, and Physical. The ice crystals must be broken quickly or they freeze your characters — bring cleanse or Fuxuan's CC immunity. This is where Argenti's constant Ult spam truly shines, as every Whirlwind of Blades proc chips away at both Cocolia and her crystals simultaneously.

Best Teams:

Second Half — True Sting & Swarm Hive

The True Sting spawns Lesser Stings that multiply if not killed. This wave is all about AoE — single-target teams will get overwhelmed by adds. The True Sting is weak to Wind, Lightning, and Imaginary. Bring Herta (E6) who gets a free FUA every time an enemy drops below 50% HP — in this swarm-heavy half, she's easily the MVP.

📊 Scoring Mechanics & How to Reach 60K+

Pure Fiction scoring is straightforward: each wave eliminated awards points based on leftover cycle value at the time of clear. The maximum per stage is 80,000 points, with 60,000 being the threshold for full rewards (3★). Here's the scoring breakdown:

Points per WaveConditionNotes
20,000Wave 1 clearedBaseline cap — losing any character reduces this
20,000Wave 2 clearedMust be within cycle limit
20,000Wave 3 clearedBonus cycles matter here
20,000Wave 4 (Boss) clearedFastest clear gives full points
60,0003★ thresholdNeed ~75% of max points
80,000Max scoreOptimal clear, 4 waves fast

Score Optimization Tips:

  1. Pre-charge All Ults before starting Stage 5-8. Enter with full energy on every character for Turn 1 burst.
  2. Focus Spawn Clusters — enemies that spawn minions (True Sting, Cocolia crystals) should be your priority. Killing adds gives Turbulence energy which cycles your Ults faster.
  3. AoE Only — never bring a single-target DPS to PF unless they have strong splash. Feixiao and Boothill are generally worse than Herta or Argenti here.
  4. Speed > 134 — your supports need to act before enemies. 134 SPD is the minimum breakpoint for 2 actions in cycle 1.
  5. Reset on Bad RNG — if your first half takes more than 3 waves, reset. You need roughly equal clear speed on both halves for 60K.
  6. Ult Animation Skipping — press ESC or click during Ult animations to save 2-3 seconds per cast, which adds up over 20+ Ults per run.

💎 F2P Priority Investment: Build Herta (E6, all traces unlocked) and Serval (E6) first. Herta is THE queen of F2P Pure Fiction — she's free, E6 is easy to achieve through Simulated Universe grinding, and her FUA mechanic triggers constantly in wave content. Pair her with Tingyun (available from several free selector events) for energy battery. Your third priority is Harmony MC, who is essentially Free-to-Play Superbreak and enables a whole archetype by themselves.
