๐ Why Polychrome Management Matters
In Zenless Zone Zero, a limited S-rank agent costs approximately 14,400 Polychrome (90 pulls) on average to guarantee (hard pity 180, soft pity ~75). With F2P players earning roughly 4,200-4,800 Polychrome per patch, you can only guarantee 1 limited S-rank agent every 3-4 patches. Smart Polychrome management is the difference between having a stacked account and constantly missing the characters you want.
๐ Pull Economy Basics
- 1 Pull = 160 Polychrome
- Hard Pity: 90 pulls for S-rank, 10 pulls for A-rank
- Soft Pity: S-rank rate increases dramatically after 75 pulls
- 50/50: First S-rank on a limited banner has 50% chance to be the featured agent. If you lose, your next S-rank is guaranteed to be the featured agent.
- Pity Carries Over: Banner pity carries forward to the next limited banner of the same type.
๐ Income Breakdown

Monthly Pass (Inter-Knot Membership) Value
The Inter-Knot Membership costs $4.99 and provides:
- 3,000 Polychrome upfront + 100 per day (3,000 per month)
- Total: 6,000 Polychrome per month
- Cost per Polychrome: ~$0.00083 โ by far the best value in the game
- ROI compared to buying Polychrome directly: ~12x better value
Verdict: If you spend any money on ZZZ, the Monthly Pass is the only purchase that truly matters. One pass per patch doubles your pull income from ~55 to ~95 pulls โ enough to guarantee most limited characters.
๐ก Best Value Ranking: 1. Monthly Pass ($5) >> 2. City Fund (BP, $10) >> 3. New Agent Welcome Bundle ($1) >> 4. Top-up bonuses (one-time) >> 5. Direct Polychrome purchase (worst value)
๐ฏ Pull Planning Strategy
Agent Priority Framework
When deciding whether to pull for a character, evaluate on four axes:
- Team Archetype Value: Does this agent enable a new team archetype (e.g., Miyabi enables Frost teams, Caesar enables shield teams)? Enablers are more valuable than pure upgrades.
- Account Coverage: Do you already have a strong team for this element/role? A new DPS for an element you already cover is less valuable than a support or stunner that improves your existing teams.
- F2P Friendliness: Does the agent work at M0W0 (no duplicates, no signature W-Engine)? Agents like Caesar and Burnice are excellent even without any investment beyond their base copy.
- Longevity: Is this agent likely to stay relevant? Universal supports (Nicole, Lucy, Ruan Mei type) remain meta much longer than pure DPS characters.
S-Rank Agent Pull Priority (v2.8)
| Tier | Agent | Role | Why Pull | M0W0 Viable? |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Must Pull | Miyabi | Ice Anomaly DPS | Strongest DPS in the game. Enables Frost teams. | โ Yes |
| Must Pull | Caesar | Physical Defense | Best universal sustain. Fits every team. | โ Yes |
| High Priority | Burnice | Fire Anomaly | Best off-field Anomaly applier. Core of Disorder teams. | โ Yes |
| High Priority | Qingyi | Electric Stun | Fastest Daze application. Best stunner for burst teams. | โ Yes |
| Good Pull | Jane Doe | Physical Anomaly | Top-tier single-target DPS. Amazing with Burnice. | โ Yes |
| Good Pull | Zhu Yuan | Ether Attack | Best Ether DPS. Strong burst window. Needs Qingyi. | โ ๏ธ Needs Stunner |
| Good Pull | Ellen Joe | Ice Attack | Solid traditional DPS. Strong, but Miyabi outclasses. | โ ๏ธ Needs Lycaon |
| Skip if F2P | Harumasa | Electric Attack | Given free (one copy). Mindscapes are low value. | โ Free copy |
| Skip if F2P | Nekomata | Physical Attack | Standard banner. Outdated kit compared to newer agents. | โ Standard |
W-Engine Pull Priority
Signature W-Engines are powerful but expensive (75/75 hard pity). As a F2P or low spender, your pull plan should be:
- Never pull on W-Engine banners unless you have 180+ pulls saved after securing the agent.
- F2P alternatives are often 85-90% as effective as signature W-Engines. The gap is rarely worth 75 pulls.
- Exception: Miyabi's Frost Moon's Grace. F2P Ice W-Engines are weak for her. If you can only pull one W-Engine, make it hers.
- Starlight Engine (craftable) is excellent for Attacker agents and only 5-8% behind most signature options.
๐ Patch-by-Patch Pull Planner
| F2P Savings | 1 Patch Saved | 2 Patches Saved | 3 Patches Saved | 4 Patches Saved |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Total Pulls | ~55 | ~110 | ~165 | ~220 |
| Can Guarantee | โ | 1 limited S-rank (50/50) | 1 limited S-rank (guaranteed) | 1 limited + signature W-Engine |
| Strategy | Pull only must-haves | Save for key character | Go for guarantee | Whale-lite pull |
- Never pull on every banner. As F2P you get ~55 pulls per patch but need up to 180 for a guarantee. You must skip 2-3 banners for every banner you pull.
- Wait 3-5 days before pulling. Theorycrafters and content creators need time to test new agents. Don't pull day 1 โ wait for informed opinions.
- Prioritize supports. A single strong support like Caesar or Nicole benefits ALL your teams. A DPS + Support pair outperforms two DPS units in every scenario.
- Don't pull for duplicates. Each M1/M2 costs as much as a new character. A new character gives more account value than any mindscape.
- Save for the anniversary. ZZZ anniversary patches typically feature double rates, free pulls, and very strong limited characters. Keep a reserve of at least 14,400 Polychrome for anniversary banners.

โ ๏ธ Common Spending Mistakes
- Pulling on Standard Banner with Polychrome: Never do this. Use only free Master Tapes.
- Chasing A-rank Mindscapes: A-rank dupes come naturally. Don't pull a banner you don't want the S-rank for, just to get A-rank copies.
- Skipping the Monthly Pass: If you're spending at all, the Monthly Pass is 12x more efficient than direct top-up. There's no excuse to buy Polychrome directly without the pass.
- Impulse pulling the last day of a banner: FOMO (fear of missing out) is designed to make you spend. If you didn't plan to pull an agent, don't panic-pull on the last day.
- Saving too aggressively: The game is meant to be fun. If not pulling for 3 patches makes you miserable, spend your savings on a character you love โ even if they're not meta.
